About the Lighthouse of Learning
The Lighthouse is a non-profit, non-traditional private school, registered with the West Virginia State Board of Education, for middle-school and high-school students in Charleston. The focus is on student-directed learning, and the school’s philosophy is evident in its mission statement: “Individualized learning options because all students are individuals.” Students learn they are appreciated for their individuality, and the focus is on helping them develop a love of learning that has either never been instilled or has been lost in the primary years of their education. Members of the community are welcome to volunteer, and many do: for creative writing, history lectures, chemistry demonstrations, AP English, physical education, reading and math tutoring, and art … to name a few.
(The Lighthouse of Learning Academy is a non-profit educational organization with a registered Employee Identification Number. All contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.)
